Charles Lloyd \u201cCharlie\u201d Sponaugle, 93, a resident of Bowden, passed from this life Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie was born Thursday, January 5, 1928, in Coalton, a son of the late Charles Walter Sponaugle and Bessie Ann Arbogast Sponaugle. Charlie spent the majority of his life residing in the Bowden area. On August 12, 1950, in Frederick, MD, he was married to the former Hilda Ruth Sites, who survives. They had celebrated seventy-one years of marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also left to cherish Charlie\u2019s memory are three children, Terry Hilda Teter and husband John, Sandra Lynn Rhodes and husband Jerry, and Charles Michael \u201cMicky\u201d Sponaugle and wife Cary; seven grandchildren, Melissa Ann Turner, Teresa Jan Chaney, Kimberly Renee Kimbleton, Jennifer Lynn McDonald, Jason Tyler Rhodes, Jessica Nicole Warner, and Charles Robert Connor Gill; sixteen great grandchildren, Autumn, Michael, Johnathan, Shayne, Mason, Summer, Dallas, Bailey, Noah, Paisley, Kailyn, Connor, Lucas, Levi, Waylon, and Quinton; six great great grandchildren, Briar, Daisy, Amiyah, Elianna, Eston, and one \u201cin the oven\u201d; and several nieces and nephews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by six siblings, Carl Walter Sponaugle, Helen M. Ketterman, Denver Sponaugle, Florence Smith, Isaac S. Sponaugle, and Harvey W. Sponaugle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie attended the schools of Randolph County and had served from 1946-1950 in the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He had worked as a sewing machine mechanic for twenty-two years with Reidboard Brothers. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time working the farm and taking long walks around the farm. He loved his family and will be missed by them. He was a member of the Harman Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlie\u2019s request for cremation was honored. A celebration of his life is being planned for a later date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
