Arnold Kermit Zirkle, 84, a resident of Mabie, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was born Oct. 11, 1918, at Cassidy, a son of the late Adam Lewis Zirkle and Nola Alice Chewning Zirkle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 1938, at Elkins, he was married to the former Esther Gaye Westfall, who is a resident of Nella\u2019s Nursing Home in Elkins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surviving is one son, Arnold James Zirkle and wife, Gayle S. Zirkle, of Buckhannon; one daughter, Carol Lea Fox of Mabie; one brother, Cleston Zirkle of Estell Springs, Tenn.; one sister, Gloria Zirkle Moran of Warren, Ohio; four grandchildren, Joyce A. Weiskircher and husband, Joseph, of Winfield, Mark G. Fox and wife, Lisa, of Elkins, Nikki George of Baltimore, Md., and Gunnery Sgt. Gary M. George of Camp Legeune, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica N. Weiskircher, Andrea L. Weiskircher and Scott G. Fox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Arden, Howard, Arron, Armond and Kilmer Zirkle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Zirkle was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, obtaining the rank of sergeant first class. He was retired from Badger Coal Co. He was a member of the Post No. 5583 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Coalton and the Cassidy United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Verl Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley VFW Post 3647 and Coalton VFW Post No. 5583. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Post No. 5583 VFW, c\/o Tom Petrice, HC 61 Box 14, Coalton, W.Va. 26257. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Arnold Kermit Zirkle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
