Eldon Simpkins Dean, 72, of Prospect died Tuesday morning at Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born July 21, 1928, in Evenwood, W.Va., he was the son of Henry Clay Dean and Rosie Mae Simpkins Dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had worked on a natural gas well drilling team in Randolph County, W.Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for Mooney Chemical Co., the Upton-Walton Co. and retired from WLS Stamping Co. in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Dean was a Protestant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He served with the Army from 1951 to 1953 and was a staff sergeant in the Army Reserves until 1956.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is survived by a nephew, George Ratzer of Franklin and a niece, Mrs. William (Margaret) White of Prospect, who also were his primary caregivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several other nieces and nephews also survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also surviving are a brother, Amon Dean; and a sister, Phoebe Ann O\u2019dell of Hiwassee, Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friends of Eldon Simpkins Dean, who died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Lohr & Barb, Vance Funeral Home, Elkins, W.Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burial will be at Alpena Cemetery, West Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice Services, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local arrangements are being handled by JAY BRYAN FUNERAL HOME, Prospect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
