Louie VanDevender 1921-2003 Obituary<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Louie T. \u201cPop\u201d VanDevender, 82, of Clifton Run, the Kerens community, for 52 years and more recently a patient in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past several years.He was born June 8, 1921, at Whitmer, the son of the late William and Lauraetta Hedrick VanDevender.He was married to the former Zetha Mae Murphy, who preceded him in death in 1994.He is survived by two sons, William Arnold VanDevender and wife, Faye, of St. Leonard, Md., and David Isaac VanDevender and wife, Pat, of Kerens; one daughter, Letha Mae VanDevender Woolwine, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Julie Blosser and Tyler Phillips of Kerens, Michelle VanDevender of Kerens, Marie Rassmusen and Genevieve Rassmusen of Edward, Ill., Heather Arbaugh and Benjamin Arbaugh of Kerens and Susan VanDevender and Thomas VanDevender of Solomons Island, Md.Mr. VanDevender was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by five brothers, Iris \u201cArd\u201d VanDevender, Austin, French, Allen and Foster VanDevender; one sister, Bertha VanDevender Kerens; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan David Arbaugh and infant Blosser and infant Rassmusen.Mr. VanDevender was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre for 3 1\/2 years. He worked for several lumber companies in the area and retired from Bauer Home Center after 21 years of service.He was a member of the Harts Chapel United Methodist Church at kerens and was a founding member of the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman where full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Kerens, W.Va. 26276, in memory of Mr. VanDevender. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Louie T. \u201cPop\u201d VanDevender. From 13 Oct 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
