Kermit \u201cBrooks\u201d Channell, 77, a resident of 211 Red Oak Lane, Elkins, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at 7:15 p.m. in the Davis Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Oct. 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born March 20, 1916, at Valley Head, he was the son of the late Major and Myrtle Lambert Channell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Oct. 12, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Elaine Forinash, who survives in Elkins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They had just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Carol Lynn Cox and husband, Harold, of Tryon, N.C., Roberta \u201cBobbie Jay\u201d Bergren and husband, John, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Kathi Gayle People and husband, Gregg, of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Kermit \u201cBrooks\u201d Channell II and wife, Lisa, of Benton, Ark.; three sisters, Dorothy \u201cDottie\u201d Daniels and husband, Bob, of Elkins, Dorene \u201cDodie\u201d Ankrum and husband, Kurt, of Colonial Heights, Va., and Merry \u201cJanie\u201d Darling and husband, David, of Elkins; and one brother, Kenneth \u201cKenny\u201d Channell and wife, Doris, of Chesapeake, Va. Also surviving are nine grandsons, Daniel Cox, Stephen Cox, Nathan Cox, Erik Bergren, Adam Bergren, Ryan Bergren, Brooks Channell, Benjamin Channell and Grant Channell; two granddaughters, Elaina Peoples and Sydney Channell; one great-grandson, Shawn Cox; an aunt, Norma Boserman and husband, Bob, of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a brother, Kemper Channell; a granddaughter, Jessica Channell; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Channell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brooks received his B.S. degree in engineering from William and Mary College in Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was employed by AT&T Corp. as an electronic engineer with the National Defense Program, retiring in 1989 with 33 years of service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brooks loved camping, traveling and always kept busy doing something. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and the Southern Baptist Church in Arkansas. above all, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brooks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a veteran and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 7 p.m. Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Brooks will be moved to the Valley Head United Methodist Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rev. William \u201cBill\u201d Sullivan, a retired Methodist minister, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Valley Head Cemetery at Valley Head. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and H.W. Daniels Post 29 will conduct full military services at the grave site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Kermit \u201cBrooks\u201d Channell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family would also like to announce that after the services at the cemetery, family and friends are invited to the home of Mrs. Dottie Daniels on Chenoweth Creek for fellowship and refreshments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
