William Frank \u201cBill\u201d DeVilder, 78, a resident of Billings Avenue, Parsons, departed this life Wednesday evening, Aug. 13, 2003, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had been in declining health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was born Aug. 30. 1924, at Red Creek, the son of the late William Norton DeVilder and Bertha Ellen Bennett DeVilder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sept. 2, 1956, at Webster Springs, he was married to the former Nola Vieva Martin, who survives at Parsons. They celebrated 46 years of marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also surviving are one son, William Michael DeVilder and wife, Shelia, of Hambleton; one foster sister, Rebecca Smith Bromell and husband, Ray, of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren, Marcy and Daniel Williams, both of Hambleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Stemple, Ruth Miller, Eva Sheets and Rosalea Pritt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. DeVilder was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre at Normandy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was the department meat manager for the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. of Parsons and retired in 1982 with 35 years of service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was the owner and operator of the DeVilder Nursery for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a former member of the Parsons Chapter No. 39 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was an avid gardener and a talented woodworker and was a member of St. John\u2019s United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 2 p.m. Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for William Frank \u201cBill\u201d DeVilder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
