Mrs. Laura Hammons, 85, a resident of 122 Third St. in Belington and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, departed this life at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the center. She had been in declining health for quite sometime.

She was born May 11, 1918, at Belington, a daughter of the late Worthington and Leona Grace Simon Poling.

She was three times married: first to Bradford Moore, second to Bertsel Moore and third to Grover C. Hammons, who all have preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Lonnie L. Moore Sr. and wife, Linda, of Belington, and Hobert C. Moore of Baltimore, Md.; nine stepchildren, Frieda A. Bleicke, Larada Gulick, Okarita Glen, Melvin Hammons, David Lee Hammons, Linda Reiss, Sue Wells, June Yoder and Genevieve Wilson; two sisters, Alda Arlene Stauffer and Winnie “Katie” Kittle; one brother, Arnold Goff Poling; seven grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Flossie A. Woodside; one stepson, Forest McOlen “Dick” Moore; and four brothers, Howard W., Reuben G., Forrest W. and Harold S. Poling.

Mrs. Hammons attended the schools of Barbour County, was a homemaker and was a member of the Belington Church of Christ.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and on Tuesday until noon. She will then be moved to the Belington Church of Christ where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted with Evangelist Michael Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mountain Hospice, 1410 Crim Ave., Belington, W.Va. 26250. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Laura Marie Poling Moore Hammons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
