He was born on August 16, 1930, in Fairmont, a son of the late Ira Elliott Springer and Gertrude (McElfresh) Springer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harold graduated from East Fairmont High School and Penn State University, as well as proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force; he went on to work as a meteorologist for WVU and later retired from the United States Postal Service. He will be remembered for his love of golfing, traveling, and WVU football and basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harold is survived by nephews, Norman A. Springer (Nancy Rae), of Martinsburg, and David F. Springer (Barbara), of Fairmont; and nieces and nephews: Shonnette Kingston, Kate Springer, George Gentekos, Frank Billingham, and Deanne Morgan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by nieces: Laurel Springer, Nancy Billingham, and Frances Gentekos; and brothers: Paul William Springer, Robert Elliott Springer, and Kenneth Firman Springer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family would like to extend their gratitude to Fitzwater\u2019s Assisted Living and their staff, as well as his former caretaker, Sherry Wable.<br>Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Monday, February 04, 2019, from 11 a.m. \u2013 1 p.m., with services starting at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mt.
