I decide to build a small coffee can forge to heat treat metal<\/p>\n\n\n\n


I gathered the raw materials
1 \u2013 Coffee Can
2 \u2013 Propane nozzle\/tank \u2013 plumbers type
3 \u2013 Plaster of Paris
4 \u2013 Sand
5 \u2013 center hole shape \u2013 tube of caulk
6 \u2013 4 bolts – 1\/4x20x5 inches for legs, with 8 nuts
7 \u2013 3 inch piece of hollow steel broom handle for torch installation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the Parts to Assemble the Coffee Can Forge<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drilled holes in the coffee can and installed 4 bolts for legs<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also drilled the hole for the torch in the side of the can, big enough for the broom handle to be installed -this is the torch inlet<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mixed up a 1\/2 and 1\/2 mix of sand and plaster of paris and added water until has a very thick mixture<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I inserted the caulk tube into the center and filled up the can<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then pulled out the caulk tube \u2013 very very difficult \u2013 I should have used something that could be taken apart<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finished product<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I left the completed forge sit for a week to dry before using<\/p>\n\n\n\n


I lit the torch and inserted the nozzle in the torch inlet \u2013 the torch immediately when out<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turns out the nozzle would not get enough air going thru the tube to run, so I cut a hole in the bottom to insert the torch<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Turns out, the plumbers nozzle was not the right one to use, so much for using what I had on hand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n


So I picked up a welders torch at Harbor Freight \u2013 a really good one with piezo starter \u2013 MUCH better<\/p>\n\n\n\n
