Carmen L. Ross, 73, a well known home builder and a resident of Southview Drive, Elkins, departed this life at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the United Hospital Center at Clarksburg. Death was attributed to cancer.
He was born April 24, 1929, at Coalton, a son of the late Emedio and Agatha Soccoccia Rossi, formerly of Coalton.
On July 14, 1951, at Saint Patrick\u2019s Catholic Church at Coalton, he was married to the former Elizabeth Ann “Betty” DeMotto, who survives. They had celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Joseph C. “Joe” Ross and wife, Kim, Elkins; one brother, Lawrence Ross and wife, Kathryn, Elkins; four sisters, Antoinette Colabrese, Elkins, Anna Pase, Coalton, Edith DiBacco, Thomas, and Frances Triplett and husband, George, Elkins; one granddaughter, Kaela Ross, Elkins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Goddin and wife, Anita DeMotto Goddin, Patricia DeMotto Zirkle, Mary Jo DeMotto, Kathryn Ross and Helen Ross; several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Julie, John and Guido Ross; and one sister, Mary DiBacco.
Mr. Ross was a graduate of Coalton High School with the class of 1948, where he lettered and starred at basketball. Following graduation he served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Third Armored Division. He was a retired coal miner, having worked for the Roaring Creek Coal Co., which was owned by his father-in-law, Joseph DeMotto. He was a retired builder and carpenter and owned and operated U-store-it Storage Buildings.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Today, at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Father William Anderson. On Saturday morning, Mr. Ross will be moved to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father John DiBacco and the Rev. Father William Anderson will be the presiders and interment will follow at Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins, where the H.W. Daniel\u2019s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct full military rites.<\/p>
