Hartzel C. Miller, 80, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at his home under the care of St. Joseph\u2019s Hospice.
He was born March 7, 1922, in Tallmansville, a son of the late Squire E. and Gertie Kelley Miller.
He married Rosetta Dean Miller, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Janis) Smith, Baltimore, Md.; one granddaughter, Heather Smith, Baltimore, Md.; one stepdaughter, Marissa Junkins, South Carolina; one stepgranddaughter, Jennie Casada, South Carolina; two stepgrandsons, Jason Casada, Pennsylvania, and Jeremy Junkins, South Carolina; one brother, Lawrence Miller, Warren, Ohio; three sisters, Evangeline Zickefoose, Mildred Zickefoose, both of Elyria, Ohio, and Maudline Barnett, Zephyrhills, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Miller; and one brother, Lenord Miller.
He retired after 20 years as a school teacher for Tri County Vocational School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received the American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Bronze Star Medal and most recently he received a Jubilee of Liberty medal awarded by the French Authorities to American Veterans of World War II who liberated France. He was a member of the VFW Post 3663 of Buckhannon and attended First Presbyterian Church of Buckhannon. His hobby was fishing.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-whitescarver Funeral Chapel Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Harris and the Rev. Ed Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 3663 and American Legion Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 of Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Locust Street, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201 and South Buckhannon Mission Church, Randolph Street, W.Va. 26201.<\/p>
