Fillmore M. Kimbrew, 85, a resident of Huttonsville, passed away Sunday evening, March 10, 2002, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas.
He was born July 12, 1916, at Huttonsville, a son of the late Lawson and Beullah Channell Kimbrew.
On Aug. 23, 1940, at Monterey, Va., he was married to the former Katheleen G. Tacy, who survives at Huttonsville.
Also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn G. Vandevender and husband, Monroe, of Canton, Ohio, Shirley Jean Hess and husband, Terry, of Fairfax, Va., and Marilyn Donnetta Braun and husband, Terry, of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Dennis Kimbrew and wife, Betty, of Elkins, and Jason Kimbrew and wife, Nancy, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; one sister, Faye White of Beverly; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton Kimbrew; and two sisters, Charlotte Rosencrance and Katrina Kimbrew.
Mr. Kimbrew was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army as a technician with the 609th Engineer Light Equipment Co. Prior to 1961, he was a self-employed carpenter and farmer. In 1961, until his retirement in 1981, Mr. Kimbrew worked as a construction foreman at Huttonsville Correctional Center. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29, American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church at Riffle\u2019s Creek until it closed and later attended the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Mission Church, Mill Creek, W.Va. 26280.<\/p>
