Mildred A. Jones, 88, a resident of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care and a former resident of Union community, Philippi, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.

She was born July 26, 1913, at Mt. Liberty, a daughter of the late Bernard C. and Lena Holbert Shaffer.

She was united in marriage on Dec. 2, 1931, to Russell L. Jones, who preceded her in death in 1981.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Ronald Simpson, Mentor, Ohio; five sons and three daughters-in-law, H. Paul Jones, Route 2, Belington, Russell Jones Jr., New Martinsville, Rodney and wife, Sonya Jones, Union community, Philippi, Roger and wife, Jean Jones, Madison, Ohio, and Allen and wife, Linda Jones, Union community, Philippi; two sisters, Mary Nell Holliday, Philippi; and Wilda Posten, Pt. Pleasant Road, Belington; one brother, Hobert Shaffer, Moundsville; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Marietta.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Union Church of Christ.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Evangelist R.D. Ice officiating. Interment will follow in Pitman Cemetery.<\/p>
