James “Nelson“ Mayle, 68, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, March 13, 2010, following a brief battle with cancer. Nelson was born July 9, 1941 in Polecat Holler, near Philippi. Serving over 21 years in the United States Navy, he retired in 1985 after serving at \u201cGitmo\u201d(Guantanamo Bay), Cuba; Jacksonville, FL; Meridian, MS; Patuxent River, MD; Norfolk, VA; and several tours at Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Darrell-allen Products at Arden,W.Va., Bath Iron Works in Bath, ME and other jobs in Wichita, KS and Clarksburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander “Red Cloud“ Mayle and Ruth(Tyler) Mayle; by three sisters, Nancy Elder, Barbara A. Wilson, and Linda “Buttons“ Mayle; and by two brothers, Douglas M. Mayle and David A. Mayle. A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Nelson is survived by his wife, Kathy (Vernon) Mayle, whom he married on May 22, 1989, of Clarksburg; brother Delaine Mayle and sister Rosemary Croston, both of Canton, Ohio; children, Tina M. Mercier and Linda J. Mayle of Lewiston, Maine, Kimmy R. Mayle-simoneau and husband Wayne Simoneau of Livermore, ME, James N. Mayle, Jr. U.S.N., retired, and wife Tracy of San Diego, CA, Johnny A. Mayle and wife Yvonne, with the U. S. Army in Mehlingen, Germany, Ronald L. Sayers and wife Jennifer of Worthington, and Jesse G. Sayers and wife Michelle of Lost Creek; grandchildren Erik L. Mayle of Minot, ME, Scott M. Mayle and Cory J. Dennis of Lewiston, ME, Heather L. Roux of Auburn, ME, Steven M. Mayle of Corbin, KY, Daniel J.J. and David T.C. Mayle of Mehlingen, Germany, and Wyatt C. Simoneau of Livermore, Chris Creighton and Cody and Katlyn Sayers of Good Hope, Cooper and Caden Sayers of Worthington; one great-grandchild, Caleb M. Mayle of Minot, ME; nephews and nieces include Glenda Tapley of Wheeling, Daniel K. Mayle and wife Sarah of Morgantown, James Wilson of Weston, Rosemary Rogers of Toronto, Canada, Arthur Mayle, Douglas Mayle, Eva Wolfe, Stephanie Mayle, Melissa Mayle, Crystal Croston and Jake Croston, all of Canton, OH. A member of the Bible Baptist Temple in Stonewood, Nelson was a devout Christian whose lifelong goal was to draw closer to his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and lead others to Him. He will forever be remembered for his love and knowledge of the Bible and his Scripture-sign ministry through which he spread God’s Word throughout Harrison County, Barbour County, Taylor County and several other surrounding counties in north-central West Virginia. Funeral services will be held at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main St., Philippi at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010, with Pastor Charles V. Maddus presiding. Calling hours for friends and family will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010 and from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., the funeral hour, on Friday. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.<\/p>
