CARL EDWARD LAYNE, age 78 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011 at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center at Elkins, WV.

He was born Sunday, January 15, 1933 at Kanawha County, WV a son of the late Edward Lewis and Mabel \u201cRuth\u201d Moore Layne. On February 24, 1957 at Charleston, WV he was married to the Former Dorothy E. Woods, who survives at Elkins; they celebrated fifty-four years of marriage Also surviving is one brother, Gene Layne, of St. Albans, and nephew Jack Judy and wife Becky, of Elkins and several other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by three sisters, Audrey Kelly, Patsy Garnes, and Bonnie Taylor.

He attended the schools of Kanawha County, was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean conflict and was employed as a machine operator for General Motors in the Fisher Auto Body Division.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins, Wednesday, from 5 to 8 PM. On Thursday, August 18, 2011 Mr. Layne will be moved to the Hafer Funeral Home at Elkview, WV where friends may call from 1 to 2 PM, the funeral hour. Pastor David Keeney will officiate and entombment will follow at the Elk Hills Memorial Park at Elkview, WV. The family suggest expressions of sympathy be expressed in forms of contributions to Hospice Care Corporation, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241.<\/p>
