William Allen \u201cPud\u201d Jones, age 68 years, a native of Elkins, WV and for the past thirteen years a resident of Ocala, FL departed this life Thursday December 17th, 2009 at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born Wednesday, February 5, 1941 at Elkins, WV a son of the late Thomas Dewey Jones and Hazel Phares Jones. On April 23, 1983 he was married to the former Sondra K. \u201cSoni\u201d Murphy Sutton, who preceded him in death on March 6, 2002. Surviving are one brother, Robert Richard Jones and wife Linda, Tallahassee, FL; one sister, Carol L. Jones Erickson and husband Carl \u201cShorty\u201d, Elkins; one step daughter, Cathy Sutton Shipman and husband Ed and two step grandsons, Mitch and Jason, all of Riverview, FL; one brother in law, Gary Murphy and wife Peggy; one sister in law, Sharon \u201cShari\u201d Murphy Mahan, all of Ocala, FL; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, Thomas E. \u201cTom\u201d and Harold N. \u201cFuzz\u201d Jones and four sisters, Harriett Delynne Jones, Charlotte Ann Jones, Irene \u201cReeney\u201d Kisner and Kathryn Louise Calain.

He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1959 and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He retired after over thirty years of service with the West Virginia Department of Highways. \u201cPud\u201d was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time he spent on the course with all of his friends in WV and Florida. He was a huge fan and supporter of Florida State Football.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 the funeral hour with the Reverend Doctor Basil A. Hensley officiating. Mr. Jones\u2019 request for cremation will then be honored and interment will follow at a later date at the Gilman Cemetery at Gilman, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, Northern Panhandle Region, 1110 Prestwick Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26508 or to Elkins Babe Ruth Baseball in care of Dick Harvey, 102 White Oak Lane, Elkins, WV 26241.
