Stephen Ervin Raines, II, age 43, of Virginia Beach, VA, formerly of Buckhannon, WV, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. He was born November 5, 1969 in Buckhannon, a son of Stephen Ervin Raines of Virginia Beach, VA and Carolyn Sue (Vincent) Raines Dean and step-father, John W. Dean of Lake Wales, FL. He resided in Buckhannon until 1981, when he moved to Big Spring, TX with his mother, Sue and step-father John. In addition to his father, mother and step-father, he is survived by one son, Stephen Earl Raines of Austin, TX; one sister, Kimberly D. Schmidt of Montrose, CO; two nephews, Erik H. and Zachary V. Schmidt both of Montrose; one step sister, Debbie Mick and husband Butch of Buckhannon and one step brother, Brad Dean and wife Vicki of Longview, TX. Steve excelled in sports, particularly football, and was recognized as outstanding defensive tackle both his junior and senor years in high school. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1988, and received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Utah State University in 1997. Steve had a sharp, witty sense of humor, and could brighten anyone\u2019s day merely with his presence. He also had a mind like a steel trap, especially when it came to football statistics. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at South Buckhannon Mission at 3 PM with the Rev. Ed Lowther officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your favorite charity. A courtesy from the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home.<\/p>
