Glenn Rothwell Bennett 1930-2002

Glenn Rothwell Bennett, 72, of Circleville, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Circleville, a son of Mabel Warner Sponaugle, who survived in Pendleton Nursing Home, and the late Jimmy Jay Bennett.

On Oct. 9, 1954, he married Barbara Sutton Bennett, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Leah M. Frank, Harrisonburg, Va., and Lori R. Butcher, Riverton; one son, Richard G. Bennett, Petersburg; one sister, Ruth B. Simmons, Franklin; one brother, Merl “Cub” Bennett, Riverton; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David Lee Bennett on July 19, 1980, and William Coleman Bennett on July 25, 1996.

He was a retired ironworker and farmer. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a charter member of North Fork Rescue Squad, the VFW 6862, Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite Shriner. He attended North Fork Church of the Brethren.

Friends will be received at Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. with Dr. Paul O’Gorek and the Rev. Roy Dale Sharp officiating. Interment will follow in North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Veterans Organizations of Pendleton County. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
