Mary Margaret Clayton 1907-2002 Obituary

Mary Margaret Clayton, 95, of Kasson community, Route 2, Moatsville, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, in Talbott Person Care Home, Belington. She had been in declining health since late December.

She was born April 26, 1907, at Hammond, near Fairmont, a daughter of the late Daniel Webster Kirk and Clara Alice Annon Kirk.

On April 13, 1932, she was married to the Rev. Fred Russell Clayton, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, and daughters-in-law, Daniel L. and Rebecca “Becky” Shankster Clayton, Valley Furnace community, and Dorsey and Rosalea Shaffer Clayton, New Martinsville; one brother, the Rev. Silas Hoover Kirk, Rivesville; one sister, Esther Lea Clayton, Fairmont; five grandchildren, David Clayton, Merinda Clayton, Carol Triplett, Janet Clayton and Kathy Higgs; and four great-grandchildren, Sara, Jennifer and Daniel Higgs and Raye Anne Clayton-triplett.

She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Lee Clayton; one great-grandson, James Sullivan; five sisters, Martha Bean, May Tenney, Ruth Shaffer, Naomi Sanders and Orpha Martin-fike; and two brothers, George Kirk and Paul Kirk.

Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker. She was baptized into the Church of the Brethren on April 5, 1925, and remained an active member throughout her life. Shiloh Church of the Brethren had been her home church for the past 62 years.

The family will received friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and at Shiloh Church of the Brethren from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, when funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Garry Clem. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family request memorials in the form of contributions to “Heifer International, PO Box 1692, Merrifeld, Va. 22116-9861.
