A. “Keith” Phares, 77, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Tuesday, September 14, 2021. He was in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Keith was born Saturday, March 11, 1944, in Elkins, a son of the late A. Clay Phares and Mary Genevieve “Johnnie” Garlow Phares. In October of 1982, he married Judith “Judy” Claudine Mullenex who preceded him in death in 2008.

Left to cherish his memory are five children, Vanessa Wilson and husband Don, George Ray, Roger Ray and wife Martha, Angie Beam and husband Junior, Scott Ray and wife Goldie, grandchildren, Sarah, Andy, Donnie, Haley, Jessie, Cassidy, Peyton, Logan, Brandon, and Kaylee, his only sister, Jill Faith Phares and husband Mike, his youngest brother, Timothy Arthur Phares and wife Carolyn, nephews and nieces, Trevor, Josh, Coty, Julene and Regan, great nephews, Chase and Silas, very special friends, Ken Hass and Rick Eades who were like brothers to Keith, and Greg Mallow who was like a son to him. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Joey Stewart who was a special neighbor and a God send to Keith for everything.

Preceding him in death were two older brothers, Kenneth Clay Phares and Gary Lynn Phares, and one sister in law, Janet Sue Phares.

Keith was a graduate of Elkins High school and had worked as a self employed carpenter. He loved to be outdoors fishing, planting flower and vegetable gardens, and walking around his property.

A graveside service will be held Friday, September 17, 2021, at 1:00 pm in the Gilman Cemetery.
