JACK WILSON WHITMIRE SR; age 76 years, a former resident of Elkins, and a resident of Lost Creek, WV departed this life early Saturday morning, July 23, 2011 at the United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, WV. He had been in declining health.

He was born Thursday, June 6, 1935 at Cass, WV a son of the late Mary Pickford Whitmire Morrison and his step father, the late McLake “Mac” Morrison. On June 27, 1959 at Elkins, WV he was married to the former Eva Lou Graham, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jack Wilson Whitmire Jr., Scott Depot, WV and one daughter, Debra Gallagher, TX; one half sister, Mary Ann Roy, of Florida, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; two aunts Maggie Wymer and Eleanor Wymer, both of Beverly, and several cousins. He is preceded in death by one son, Randall Paul Whitmire and one half sister Jan Dahlin.

Jack attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He had worked for many years in the oil fields, and at the time of his retirement was Operations Manager for the Swift Energy Company. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed gardening.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 12 PM to 2 PM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
