Alberta Strader Greene, 86, a resident of Philippi, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness while under the care of Mountain Hospice and many loving care givers.

She was born Dec. 11, 1915, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Monzel M. and Martha Dyer Strader.

She was united in marriage on May 29, 1943, to James P. Greene, who preceded her in death on July 28, 1999.

She is survived by one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Skip Inskip, Atlanta, Ga.; one niece and two nephews, one being Pastor Fred Holbrook and wife, Shirley, Carlisle, Ohio.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister, Rosa Lee S. Brower; and one brother, James Edwin Strader.

She was a 1939 graduate of West Virginia University. She served as personal director in Huntington for Owens-illinois Glass Co. She operated the Strader’s Insurance and Real Estate Business from 1959 to 1976. She owned and operated Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery from 1959 until the late 1970s. She was a member of the Arktaean Club, Barbour County Club and Chapter 41 Order Eastern Star. She was a member of the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 4 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Fred Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemeterey
