Alfred Carl Skinner, 75, a former resident of the Glenmore community, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Nella’s Inc. at Crystal Springs, departed this life early Friday morning, Dec. 27, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health for the past several years.

He was born Wednesday, March 23, 1927, in Hardy, Randolph County, a son of the late David and Neva Riffle Skinner.

On June 7, 1946, he was married to the former Joline D. Parrack, who survives. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard A. Skinner and wife, Ann, Clarksburg, and Michael K. Skinner, Beckley; one daughter, Kathy J. Skinner, St. Louis, Mo.; four sisters, Norma Jean Brashear, Live Oak, Fla., Edna Bishoff, New Lenox, Ill., Violet Linger, West Farmington, Ohio, and Sharon Hrenko, Louisville, Ky.; and four grandchildren, James Skinner, Kristina Jo Pritt, Melanie Skinner and Curtis Skinner.

He retired from the former Monongahela Power Company, after 24 years of service and later from Valley Real Estate and Insurance Agency at Elkins, which he owned and operated for 25 years.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a former member of the Tygarts Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elkins Lions Club and the Elkins Lodge No. 1135 BPOE. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had served as both a member and president of the Church Council.

Friends will be received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Father Kelly Marshall will officiate and interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman where members of the H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion will present the American flag. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 302 First St., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
