Alton Eugene Collins, 73, of Webster Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 13, 1930, at Hodam Creek, the son of the late William E. Collins and Luverena A. Ware Collins.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Orville Collins, William Collins Jr. and Hueling Collins; and four daughters, Opal Vance, Letha Eubank, Melba Collins and an infant daughter.

Surviving are his wife, Alta Lucille Cutlip Collins of Webster Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Karen) Bradley of Spotsylvania, Va., and Brenda Gregory of Cowen; four sisters, Mable Ware of Sutton, Avis Snyder of York, Pa., Reatha Brown of Hookstown, Pa., and Macil Brown of Maidsville; four granddaughters, Edna Marcel Southern of Spotsylvania, Va., Sandra Renee Orris of Partlow, Va., Carrie Ann Harrington of Buchannon, Va., and Melody Dawn Woods of Cowen; four great-grandsons, Eric Southern of Spotsylvania, Va., Joe Southern of Spotsylvania, Va., Zachary Johnson of Cowen and Kyle Orris of Partlow, Va.; and one great-granddaughter, Katie Orris of Partlow, Va.

Mr. Collins was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and attended the Hodam Creek Methodist Church.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and enjoyed grandchildren tremendously.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday.

Eulogists will be Bob Rogers of Webster Springs and Bill Triplett of Bergoo. Interment will be in the Hodam Creek Cemetery at Hacker Valley.
