Andrew James “Andy” Humphrey, 53, a resident of Elkins, and formerly of Belington and Junior, was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, Saturday, March 16, 2002. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Jan. 21, 1949, at Braxton County, a son of the late Roy Junior Humphrey and the late Margaret Jane Canfield.

He was formerly married to Susan Humphrey, who survives at Belington.

Also surviving are one daughter, Melissa Simmons, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.; two sons, Darius Andrew and Trevor James Humphrey, both of Belington; one brother, Roy Dale Humphrey, Belington; two sisters, Sandra Louise Coburn, Clarksburg, and Linda Sharon Talbott, Junior; and one granddaughter, Amber Simmons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant brother, Darius Wayne Humphrey.

Mr. Humphrey attended the schools of Barbour County. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War from 1968-1972 serving in the U.S. Army and also had served briefly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was formerly employed by Asplundh Tree Co. He was a member of the VFW Post 410 in Belington and was a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Doyle Neil Rider officiating. The casket will remain closed. Interment will follow in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery near Junior, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 44 of Philippi.
