Argie Lena Hipp, age 94 years, a lifelong resident of Whitmer and a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center since June of 2009, passed away Friday morning, December 10, 2010 in the Center.

She was born February 25, 1916 at Whitmer, a daughter of the late William and Rebecca Vance Harper.

She was twice married, first to Robert Hedrick who preceded her in death in March 1943.

Second to Vernis Hipp who preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by five daughters, Patricia Nelson and husband Willis of Struthers, OH, Ruth Thompson and husband Tuggle, Molly Armentrout and husband Fred, all of Whitmer, Sue Senic and husband Dave of Alpena, Suzie Davis and companion Ralph Durrett of Belington, a special grandson, Jeffrey Heltzel and wife Ann, of Lowellville, OH and two sisters, Hallie Whitecotton and Georgia Mullennax, both of Newport News, VA.

Also surviving are grandaughters, Sheree Tarnaski, Lisa Nelson, Kathy Turner, Barbara Deaver, Angie Shockley, Stacy Delawder and Patricia Thompson, grandsons, Eddie Turner, Michael Thompson, Barry Hedrick, Mark Hedrick, John Nelson, Shane Senic and Jeff Davis, twenty one great grandchildren, fourteen great great grandchildren, several step children and step grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

A special step son, Carl Hipp and wife Esther of Petersburg, WV, special cousins, the Mauzy family, Paul, Richard, John, Mary and Virginia, all of Parsons and a very special friend, Wayne Sites of Crimora, VA also survive.

Also preceding her in death was, one son, Bobby “Saul” Hedrick; daughter-in-law, Gail Hedrick; grandsons, Larry Turner, Steven Thompson, Dustin Thompson; granddaughters, Amy “Susie” Markotan and Elizabeth “Libby” Turner; a son-in-law, Calvin Thompson; one sister, Vallie Harper Wolfe; five brothers, Burley, John, Orville, Ovel, and infant Edward Harper and three special nephews, William, Robert and Thomas Wolfe.

Mrs. Hipp was a Protestant by faith and loved her Lord.

She was a foster parent for Randolph and Grant Counties and loved to bake and cook and had been featured as one of the country’s number one cooks in Country Magazine.

She loved the staff and residents at Elkins Regional Convalescent Center whom she considered her friends and family.

Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2010 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Steve Bailey and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating.

Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill CemeteryWhitmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center Activity Department, C/O Dorsleen Pingley, 1175 Beverly Pike, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Hipp.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Argie Lena Hipp.
