ARLING RANDOLPH “BUD” SIMMONS age 75 years, a resident of Elkins, WV, moved on to his mansion in Heaven, Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville, VA. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in a fall.

He was born Sunday, March 24, 1935 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Verl Otto and Lena Canfield Simmons. On May 13, 1961 at Beverly, WV, he was married to the former Jeannie P. Varner, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Arling R. “Randy” Simmons, II of Elkins; one daughter, Barbara Shapiro and husband Melvin of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Douglas “Doug” Simmons and wife Martha of Kerens and Verl Otto “Junior” Simmons, Jr. of Beverly; one sister, Evelyn “Sissy” Davis Starcher of Sebring, FL; four granddaughters, Kari L. Shahan of Parsons, Lauren, Isabella and Morgan Shapiro all of Baltimore and three great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by four brothers, Denzil David “Sonny” Simmons, Harry E. Simmons, William “Bill” Simmons and Richard Simmons.

He attended the schools of Randolph Co. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, stationed with the 61st Military Police. He was selected as a honor guard for the Unknown Soldier from WWII. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 ½ years of service. He was a member of the United Postal Workers of America, a member of the Elkins High School Booster Club and the Randolph Co. Senior Center. He will be sadly missed by family and many friends. He was an avid outdoorsman.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11 AM. The Rev. Terry Burgess and The Rev. William Sullivan will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, where H.W. Daniel’s Post #29 American Legion will present the American Flag.
