MARY ELIZABETH TYRE HUME 1918-2010 Obituary
MARY ELIZABETH TYRE HUME, age 92 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Friday, December 24, 2010 at her home.
She was born Friday, January 11, 1918 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late William David Tyre and Maude Belle Curtis Tyre.
On June 16, 1968 she was married to Thomas D. Hume, who preceded her in death February 6, 1992.
Surviving are one sister, Natalie Tyre Barb, Elkins; two step sons, Thomas D. Hume, Centerburg, OH; Robert Hume, Angier, NC; three nieces, Dr. Loraine Tyre, Morgantown; Barbara Weese Bennett, Swansee, IL; Suzi Tyre Moore, Huttonsville; five nephews, Thomas William Barb, Reno, NV, David Robert Barb and William David Barb, both of Muscatine, IA; Andrew Thomas Barb, Redman, WA; and Robert Curtis Bennett, Freeburg, IL; and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Glen and Raymond Tyre; and three sisters, Lela Hamilton; Alma Little; and Gladys Weese.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1935, Davis & Elkins College and Columbia University. She also attended West Virginia University and Marshall University. Mary was a teacher and counselor for thirty-six years in the Randolph County Schools.
She was a Life Member of the American Association of University Women; a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Teachers Society and the Randolph County Retired School Employees.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Circle 2 of the church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Wednesday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:30 PM.
The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins, WV.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the Randolph County Humane Society, P. O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241.
