Avis Ruth Lake Harper, 82, of 208 Pocahontas St., Buckhannon, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at her home in Buckhannon.

She was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Homer Duncan and Mamie Ruth Currence Lake.

On Dec. 12, 1937, she married Frank M. Harper, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, F. Ruth Wilt, Buckhannon, and Brenda J. Howard, Medford Lakes, N.J.; one son, David P. Harper, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Ruby E. Titus, Hickory, N.C.; four grandsons, Forrest C. Wilt Jr., Wilmington, Ohio, Steven L. Wilt, Florence, Ky., Kevin B. Harper, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Andrew C. Howard, Medford Lakes, N.J.; three granddaughters, Lora A. Hubbard, Fort Lewis, Wash., Rebecca R. Howard and Rachel Howard, both of Medford Lakes, N.J.; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Donald F. Harper; two brothers, H. Sherwood Lake and Dwight D. Lake; two grandsons, Stan L. Wilt and Jeffrey H. Wilt; and one granddaughter, Melissa R. Wilt.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Weston and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home Saturday from 3

p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating.

Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
