Barbara Jean Phares, 49, a former resident of the Gilman community and a resident of Evans Road, Chenoweth Creek community, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center where she had abeen a resident for the past three and one-half months. Death was attributed to cancer.

She was born June 7, 1953, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Merrill L. and Ila Ruth Yokum Phares.

Surviving are her companion, Bernard “Bud” Moore; three brothers, Robert Lewis Phares and wife, Bonnie, Donald Eugene Phares and wife, Darlene, and Ronald Alan Phares, all of Gilman; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Diana Ruth) Murphy, Montrose; three nephews, Gregory Alan Phares, Adam Christopher and Trevor Lee Murphy; and several aunts and uncles.

Ms. Phares had spent most of her life caring for the elderly in private homes. She had a love for animals and enjoyed gardening and flowers.

She formerly attended the Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman and was a Protestant by faith.

Friends will be received from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The Rev. Pamela Shuman will officiate and interment will follow in the Gilman Cemetery.
