Mrs. James (Beatrice) Hyre, 79, of Route 3, Buckhannon, the Abbott community, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at her home, under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

She was born Dec. 28, 1922, at Bethlehem, Upshur County, a daughter of the late James Emmett and Mary Tenney Gillum.

She was united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1939, to James S. Hyre, who preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1984.

She is survived by two sons, Richard D. Hyre of Tallmansville, and Darrell W. Hyre of Adrian; four daughters, Mrs. Marlin (Idella) Loudin of Adrian, Mrs. Michael (Marjorie) Tierney of Weston, Mrs. William (Lois) Bias of Keyser and Mrs. Lowell (Levonda Kay) Wayts of Stafford, Va.; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Hyre was an active member of the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Willing Workers Extension Homemakers Club and she was a homemaker. For many years she and her husband operated Hyre’s Garage at Adrian. She was a quilt maker and won many awards for her outstanding quilts.

Friends will be received today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr. and the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Ford Cemetery
