Beatrice Madeline Currence Markley, 88, a life-long resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Wednesday June 30, 2021, at her residence, surrounded by family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.

Beatrice was born Friday, September 9, 1932, in Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Hillery Currence and Ethel Jordan Currence. On October 2, 1951, in Mill Creek, she married Edward Paul Markley who preceded her in death in 1989.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Bonnie (Darrell) Serrett of Mill Creek, Edward Markley of Mill Creek, Gatha (Jerry) Teter of Fairview, Rickey (Christina) Markley of Huttonsville, Michael (Brenda) Markley of Clarksville, VA, five grandchildren, Bethany Arbogast, Angela Elza, James Markley, Allisha Salisbury, Corey Markley, six great-grandchildren, Colin Arbogast, Owen Arbogast, Issac Salisbury, Alexis Elza, Cooper Markley, Matthew Pratt, one brother, Wilson (Betty) Currence of Elkins, several nieces and nephews, sister in law, Billie June Stargill of Dayton, OH, and two special caregivers, Audrey Carter and Courtney Barb.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were six deceased siblings, Hillery Jr., William, Andy Currence, Jean Corley, Lucille Hamrick, Nellie Shiflett.

Beatrice attended the schools of Randolph County. One of the achievements she was most proud of was obtaining her GED. In the early 90’s, following the death of her husband, Beatrice went back to school, obtained her GED, and was the speaker as the top of her class at her commencement ceremony. She had been employed as a seamstress at Reidbord Brothers. One of her favorite jobs was her employment with the Foster Grandparent Program. She had also been employed as a cashier at Mill Creek IGA until her retirement in 2016. During her working career she and Edward managed and operated M&M Construction. In the early 80’s, Beatrice and Edward started the Tygarts Valley Community Church in Huttonsville that was later renamed Markley Chapel.

The family requests for a get together at Darrell and Bonnie Serrett’s residence in Mill Creek on Sunday July 4, 2021 at 1:00 PM for a meal.

Visitation will be at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, July 6, 2021, from 11 am until 1 pm at which time the casket will remain closed. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 pm. Pastors Tim Turner and Jerry Teter will officiate and interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Beatrice’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. www.alz.org.
