Bernard Neal Phillips, 65, a resident of Route 3, 109 Locust St., Belington, departed this life early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past three months; however, his death was unexpected.

He was born July 17, 1937, at Jimtown, a son of the late Guy Phillips and Virginia Bennett Phillips.

On May 17, 1963, at Parsons, he was married to the former Phyllis M. Armentrout, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Victor Neal Phillips and Allen Ray Phillips, both of Belington; five brothers, Raymond Phillips, Jimtown, Burley Phillips, Belington, Ronald and Jerry Phillips, both of Elkins, and Bobby Phillips, Adolph; four sisters, Ruth Phillips, Jimtown, Catherine McCoy and Mary Jane Brenwalt, both of Elkins, and Hazel White; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Phillips Jr. and Bill Phillips; and one infant brother.

He attended the schools of Coalton. He was a former coal miner for several years and retired in 1992 from the maintenance department of the Barbour County Courthouse with 19 years of service. He was a member of the Westside United Methodist Church at Belington, and loved farming.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home of Belington today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Doyle Neil Rider will officiate and interment will follow at Belington Fraternal Cemetery at Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Bernard Neil Phillips.
