Bernard Stanley Jones, 76, of Route 3, Hickory Corner Road, Philippi, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.

Mr. Jones was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Lillian, a son of the late Glenn Jones and Leona Phillips Jones Moore.

On March 1, 1948, he married the former Ottis Belva Murphy, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2000.

Surviving are two sons, Charles O. and wife, Phyllis Jones, and Lemuel G. and wife, Debbie Jones, both of Philippi; two brothers, Alva Jones, Pennsylvania, and Burlin “Bud” Jones, Philippi; a sister, Pauline Burner, Philippi; two grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, a great-granddaughter, 19 stepgreat-grandchildren, three stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Jones and an infant; three sisters, Irene Burner, Lorea Crislip and an infant; and a stepgreat-granddaughter.

Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He retired as a motorman and pumper for Pittson Coal Group with 32 years service. He played banjo with the Senior Citizens Band and was a member of Philippi Senior Center.

He was a member of the Ty-hannon Sportsman Club and a member of Union Church of Christ.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today after 7 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 10 a.m. with Evangelist R.D. Ice officiating. Interment will follow in Silent Grove Cemetery.
