Bernice Irene “Sissy” Hammonds Gibson, 94, a resident of Mill Creek, went peacefully to be with her lord Saturday, March 8, 2014 at home. Sissy was born Tuesday, August 19, 1919 in Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Adam Hammonds and Emma Sharp Hammonds. On August 25, 1937 she married Ashby Gibson who preceded her in death on February 3, 1983. Left to cherish Sissy’s memory are three sons, Lonnie Gibson and wife Norma, Joe B. Gibson and Jack Gibson and wife Connie, all of Mill Creek, three daughters, Joan Casto of Pickens, Charlotte Jackson and husband John of Huttonsville and Karen Gibson of Mill Creek, several grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were three children, Harold Gibson, Judy Shreve and Cheryl Gibson. Sissy was a homemaker and enjoyed watching her hummingbirds. She was Pentacostal by faith and attended the Light of the Valley Church. Sissy was well known for singing hymns in church. She never knew a stranger and was loved by many. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 11A-1P, the funeral hour. The Reverend Norma Gibson will officiate and interment will follow in the Mill Creek Cemetery.
