A memorial service for Bessie Summers, 89, of Unity Manor, Morgantown, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Church of Christ on Madigan Avenue, with the Rev. Karl McLarty officiating.

She died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at MonPointe Continuing Care Facility.

She was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Palestine, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Buck Lockhart. She attended Spruce Street United Methodist Church.

She was retired from O.J. Morrison Department Store in 1974.

She is survived by two daughters and spouse, Patricia and Joseph May, of Westover, and Nancy Summers, of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Joan Biafore Summers, of Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Russell Lockhart, of Vienna, and Roy Lockhart, of Downey, Calif.; a sister and spouse, Hilda and Saul Friendlander; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Clair Summers; a son, Dr. James C. Summers; three brothers, Glen Lockhart, Carroll Lockhart, and Arlie Lockhart; and two sisters, Mrs. C.R. (Audrey) Blake, and Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Andeway.

Cremation services were provided by Hastings Funeral Home.
