Bessie Marie Metz Tennant, 87, of St. George died Dec. 17, at the home of her daughter Mary Kelley Metz. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.

She was born Jan. 15, 1914, at St. George, a daughter of the late Jim Metz and Rose McDonald Metz. During 1929, she married to Noah Edward Tennant, who preceded her in death July 22, 1983.

Surviving are two sons, William Dale Tennant, Mt. Ariel, PA Edward “Lee” Tennant, St. George; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Kelley (and Robert) Metz, St. George, Ruth (and Howard) Shahan, Madison, OH; fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers, William, Carl, Harold and Dayton Metz; four sisters, Grace Boyles, Pesant Canfield, Minerva and Minnie Metz, one grandson, Bernard “Bernie” Kelley and one granddaughter, Marie Arbogast.

She attended the one room school at Auviltown. She had worked for the Copper Company at Baltimore, MD, during World War Ii. She was a member of the Sycamore Graove Church at Bull Run

Friends will be received at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today, Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 6 until 9 pm. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 11 am. Pastor Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow in the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George.
