Bethel Mae Vance Rhodes, 87, of Glady, died at 9:17 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications from diabetes.

Mrs. Rhodes was born July 3, 1914, a daughter of the late Ira Vance and Ota Triplett Vance.

On Aug. 6, 1933, she married James Issac Rhodes, who survives in Glady. They had celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons, Edward Rhodes and wife, Evelyn, Bill Rhodes and wife, Linda, and Jerry Rhodes and wife, Sandy, all of Glady; four daughters, Bonnie Bodkins and husband, Lapel, Valley Head, Shirley Thompson, Beverly, Charlott Pennington and husband, George, Harman, and Barbara Lawrence and husband, James, Dry Fork; three brothers, Harold Vance, Orrville, Ohio, Charles Vance, Wooster, Ohio, and Herman Vance, Bowden; four sisters, Ethel Parncutt, Elkins, Betty Filuta, Orrville, Ohio, Audrey Armentrout, Rittman, Ohio, and Donna Mullholand, Walbridge, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Issac Rhodes; five brothers, Ike, Donald, June, Harley and Howard Vance; and two sisters, Mary Kerens and Mable Race.

Mrs. Rhodes attended the two-room school in Glady. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the former home demonstration club of Glady.

She worked for the election board for many years in Glady and was a former member of the Parent Teacher Association in Glady. She was a member of Glady Church of the Brethren in Glady, where she played the organ and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Lohr-barb-vance Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Walter H. Blough and the Rev. Robert L. Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in Glady Cemetery in Glady.
