Betty Ann Bennett Furman, 71, a resident of Route 1, Elkins, departed this life Sunday afternoon, June 1, 2003, at the Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past several years.

She was born Wednesday, May 4, 1932, in Anniston, Ala., the daughter of the late Melvin Bennett and Grace Davis Bennett Roberts.

On Oct. 18, 1976, at Tampa, Fla., she married John Barry Furman, who preceded her in death on April 30, 2001.

Surviving are one son, Weldon T. Wright and wife, Linda, Lutz, Fla.; one daughter, G’na G. Stephens and husband, David, Elkins; one stepbrother, Joe Roberts and wife, Joyce, Gardendale, Ala; and three grandchildren, Dawn Caulfield, Matt Stephens and Kristin Wright.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Franklin Bennett.

She was a graduate of Anniston High School at Anniston, Ala., was a piano and vocal teacher and retired in 1985, and was a member of the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had served as the former choir director and a member of the Handbell Choir. She was an avid baseball fan of the Atlanta Braves.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Wednesday morning, Mrs. Furman will be moved to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church where final rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Bryan will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 113 First St., Elkins, W.Va., 26241.
