BETTY JEAN ARBOGAST PENNINGTON, age 77 years, a resident of Elkins, WV, departed this life peacefully Saturday morning, August 7, 2010 at her home. She had been in declining health for several months.

She was born Tuesday Sept. 20, 1932 at Cherry Grove in Pendleton County, the youngest daughter of the late Don and Icie Teter Arbogast. On December 12, 1957 at Red House, MD, she was married to Thomas Edward “Eddie” Pennington, who preceded her in death January 2, 1981.

Surviving are one son, Thomas E. “Tommy” Pennington and his fiancé Shelia Cross, of Elkins, WV. and one grandson, Deven Cross, of Jacksonville, FL.; three brothers, Guy Arbogast and wife Karen, Earl Arbogast and wife Daisy all of Elkins, WV. and Carl Arbogast of Allience, OH; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends Sharon Mitchell and Rose Skidmore.

Preceding her in death are four brothers, Delbert, Hoy, Dremis and Coy Arbogast and four sisters, Elva Arbogast, Cynthia Hackett, Bonnie Smith and Rosa Lee Campbell.

She was employed as a secretary for the former Keim Agency in Elkins, Nella’s Nursing Home Inc and Western Maryland Credit Union. She and her late husband were the owners and operators of Eddies Auto Sales in Elkins. She enjoyed dirt track racing with her husband; and they were the owners of Eddies Race Team for several years, until his untimely death in 1981. She also enjoyed playing bingo and watching TV.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Tuesday from 6 PM. to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:30AM. Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions in Betty’s name to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington WV 26250.
