Betty Jean Shirk Obituary 1941-2013
Ms. Betty Jean Shirk Cunningham, age 71 years, a resident of Kerens, passed away at 5:45 AM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD from complications of pneumonia with family by her side.
She was born April 4, 1941 at Mouth of Seneca, a daughter of the late Homer and Mae Vance Shirk.
On November 23, 1961 in Baltimore, MD she married the late Lincoln “Bud” Cunningham.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard E. Cunningham, Panama City, FL and Joe Cunningham of Elkins, a daughter Shelby Cunningham of Hagerstown, MD and a late son Allen E. Cunningham. She had ten grandchildren, three sisters, Helen Nelson, Baltimore,MD , Marie Rosario, Newtown, Pennsylvania, Mary Shirk, Baltimore, MD, three brothers, Dale Shirk, Baltimore, MD, Dennis Shirk, Baltimore, MD, and John Shirk, Baltimore, MD also survive. Ms. Cunningham attended schools in Pendleton County and worked at Davis Memorial Hospital and Randolph County Schools. She enjoyed reading her bible, gardening, canning, cooking, and her greatest passion, loving her entire family. She will always be remembered for the kindness she showed to others and great generosity she provided to everyone. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many and will always be missed by those who knew her and loved her. She was a member of Jones Creek Christian Church of Edgemere, MD and Whitmer United Methodist and First Church of Christ of Elkins, WV. Friends may call from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday January 18, 2013 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 19th from the funeral home chapel with Michael Courtwright officiating. Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery near Whitmer, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501 in memory of Mrs. Cunningham. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Betty Cunningham.
