Betty Lou Simmons, 73, a resident of 218 First St., Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health.

She was born March 5, 1929, at Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Charles Victor Flanagan and Ann Boggs Flanagan Snoderly.

She was married to Lenn James Simmons, who preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1951.

Surviving are one son, Victor Simmons and wife, Patty, Elkins; two daughters, Judith Simmons and husband, Mick, Buckhannon, and Karen L. Carsie White and husband, Allen, Elkins; her long-time companion, Murrill P. Ware, Elkins; one brother, Michael Flanagan, Charlottesville, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. William (Rosalie) Corley, Elkins, Peggy Hannah, Texas, and Catherine Jagahie, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Flanagan.

Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and had worked as a waitress for the City Restaurant, the Lamp Lite Restaurant and for Dairy Delight.

She was a member of the Elkins-randolph County Senior Center, a member of First Baptist Church of Elkins and had attended Landmark Baptist Church of Elkins.

Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ken Shiflet will officiate and entombment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Gilman.
