Blanche Virginia Jenney Helmick Jenkins 1924-2002 Obituary

Blanche Virginia “Jenny” Helmick Jenkins, 77, a lifelong resident of Tucker County and a resident of St. George, departed this life at 1:15 a.m. Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2002, at her home. Death was attributed to leukemia.

She was born July 27, 1924, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Noah Helmick and Ora Eddy Helmick.

On Aug. 26, 1970, she married Ray Boyd Jenkins, who preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1980.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ruby A. Horn, Seneca, S.C.; three nieces, Carolyn Shreve, St. George, Marilyn Nielsen, Kerens, and Margaret O’Neil, Big Sandy, Montana; three great-nieces, three great-great-nieces, four great-nephews and seven great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Opal Taylor, Georgia Helmick, Ruth Helmick, Margaret Helmick and an infant sister; two brothers, Ralph Helmick and Lester Helmick; and a nephew, Gary Helmick.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1942. She was employed as an LPN for the Tucker County Hospital, where she worked a number of years in the OB and the nursery department. She was employed at the hospital over 35 years. She was a former employee of the Tucker County Senior Center. She was a member of St. George United Methodist Church Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Hendricks Free Methodist Church for 57 years and attended St. George Church of God.

Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Harley DeLeurere will officiate and interment will follow in the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
