William Howard “Bondo” Vance, 73, a former resident of Whitmer and a resident of Struthers, OH, died Sept. 13 at the St. elizabeth Health Center at Youngstown, OH. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Aug. 20, 1928 at Whitmer, a son of the late Arnold “Arn” and Flossie Dolly Vance. He was twice married. During 1956, he was married to the former Wanda Lee Mullenax, who preceded him in death in 1990. On June 25, 1995, he was married to Iella Hughes Sneizek Vance, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Edward C. Surguy, Sr., Hendricks, Police Chief William H. Vance, Jr. and roger Dale Vance of Lowellville, OH; one daughter Deborah Lynn Wymer, Ravenna, OH: three step-sons, Jimmy Jones, Maplesville, AL, Jerry Janes, Clanton, AL, Edward Sneizik, Jr. New Castle, PA; four step-daughters, Linda Rush, New Castle, OH, Elaine Eiginer, Herndon, VA, Joyce Moore, New Castle, OH, Jane Ann Hozik, Great Falls, VA; one brother, Ted Vance, Laneville; two sisters, Mary Wymer, Whitmer, Gloria Jean Vance, Worthington; 37 granchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Dick and Jim Vance, and three sisters, Helen Waybright, Josie tingler and Audrey Mullenax.

He was a 1948 granduate of Harman High School, and a veteran of the US Army. He was a maintenance mechanic for Allied Chemical and Koppers Company for many years at Youngstown. He was affiliated with the Church of God. Firneds were received at the Whitmer Church of God, Whitmer. Final rites were conducted Sept. 18, at noon. Pastor Dean Olson officiated and interment followed at the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Whitmer. The Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
