The idea for this neckerchief slide comes from a monkey carved into a peach stone (pit)

A somewhat complicated carving with the center removed, lots of opportunity to break the carving

Although the idea came from a carving using a peach stone as the raw material, this neckerchief slide is made from basewood, which is a little easier to carve than a peach stone

Whittlin Jim recommends making one of basswood, and then making one from a peach stone

Our family has always called the center of a peach a ‘pit’ but another name for the center is a ‘stone’, mostly because its so hard

A peach pit can be used, and another source for a ‘pit’ is necterines, a necterine is a non-fuzzy peach, and taste about the same, depending on the variety
