Bradley C. Shifflett 1954-2002 Obituary

Bradley C. Shifflett, 48, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his home at 109 Jackson Ave., Elkins.

He was born April 5, 1954, in Elkins, a son of Calvin Hansbrough and Mary Frances Hedrick Shifflett of Elkins.

He was a 1973 graduate from Elkins High School. Having a great love of animals since childhood, he began volunteering at the Randolph County Humane Society in 1976. He was among a group of citizens who worked diligently and was instrumental in bringing about a change in the euthanasia of unwanted animals in Randolph County. In 1978, he was hired by the Randolph County Humane Society as the city dog warden and shelter custodian. He held the position of shelter custodian for 20 years until Jan. 15, 1998. He became disabled with cancer in 1998. He was a past vice president and a board member of the Randolph County Humane Society for 20 years.

He was very loved and will be greatly missed by five sisters, Mrs. DeNeal (Cathy) Phillips, Mrs. Lanny (Kim) Thompson, Mrs. Dave (Sherry) Bonner, Mrs. Don (Pat) Thompson and Mrs. Terry (Sandy) Sipe; one brother, David Shifflett and wife, Cheryl; six nephews, Chris Phillips, Derek Shifflett, Cody Thompson, Adam and Travis Bonner and Brandon Sipe; three nieces, Casey and Christa Shifflett and Tara Sipe; two great-nieces, Morganne and Macey Phillips; one great-nephew, Chase Bennett; and a large extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Rosa Hansbrough Shifflett; and his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Susie Thompson Hedrick.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike House officiating. Interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.
