Burley “Jake” Nelson, 83, of Laneville, died at home on Dec. 6, 2020.

He was born Feb. 9, 1937, in Laneville, a son to the late Edgar E. and Nela C. (Huffman) Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lou (Cooper) Nelson, whom he married on Dec. 21, 1960.

Also surviving are three sons, Harvey Nelson, Laneville, Gary Nelson Sr. and wife, Tina, Stringtown, and Anthony Nelson, Laneville; three daughters, Barbara Mayor, Laneville, Christina Gorman, Ohio, and Carolyn Sue Witteman and husband, Tom, Ohio; two brothers, Billy Joe Nelson, Laneville, and Jim Nelson, Stringtown; three sisters, Mary Smith and husband, Ron, North Carolina, Doris Evans and partner, Juan, North Carolina, and Joanne Huffman and husband, Clyde, Elkins; nine grandchildren, Timothy, Ashley, Gary Jr., Lance, Kevin, Penny, Adam, Michael and Lucas; seven great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Aubrey, Malachi, Gabriel, Keira, Kadyan and Aizley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Rosco, Donald and Roy E. Nelson; one sister, Betty Jean Kimble; one son, Timothy Nelson; and two sons-in-law, Mike Gorman and Donald Mayor.

Jake was a 49-year member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132.

He enjoyed farming and watching NASCAR. He loved his antique cars.

Friends will be received at Hinkle-fenner Funeral Home today from 3 to 5 p.m.

Interment will follow at a later date in the Nelson Family Cemetery.
