Byrd Westfall Ball, 86, a resident of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care, Philippi for the past year and a former resident of Route 3, Mansfield Addition, Philippi, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.

She was born July 2, 1915, at Falls Mills, Braxton County, a daughter of the late John S. and Katie L. Steele Westfall.

She was united in marriage on Nov. 12, 1935, to Shirley O. Ball, who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1979.

Surviving are one son and a daughter-in-law, Ronald L. and Ellen M. Ball, Mansfield Addition, Philippi; a very special stepdaughter, Juanita Wilson, Tampa, Fla.; one stepson, William James Clark, Florida; two sisters, Marbia Blair and husband, Forest, Largo, Fla., and Iva Lee Maciejewski, Monongah; two half sisters, Anna Louise McGee and husband, F.R. “Mac,” Fairborn, Ohio, and Dorothy Harris, Largo, Fla.; one half brother, Leo Westfall, Fairborn, Ohio; two grandsons, Brian L. Ball, Philippi, and Alan W. Ball, Atlanta, Ga.; six stepgrandchildren, Sandra Cochran, Jane Lew, Robert Singleton, Tennessee, Jacqualine Suarez, Florida, Deborah Clarke, Florida, Stephen Shingleton, Clarksburg, and Lynda Rex, Florida; several stepgreat and stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Howard Burton Ball, in infancy; four brothers, Earl, Everett, Raymond and Clarence Westfall; two sisters, Ethel Henderson and India Westfall in infancy; two half brothers, Leon and Richard Westfall; her stepmother, Minnie Swick Westfall; and three stepgrandchildren, Theodore Shingleton, Jean Smith and Rebecca Miller.

Mrs. Ball was a resident of Stonewood for 68 years prior to moving to Philippi in 1979. She attended Roosevelt-wilson High School.

She retired from Maidenform of Clarksburg with 28 years service. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working in all phases of ceramics and helping with craft shows.

She was a member of Stonewall United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Stonewall Cemetery at Stonewood
