C.A. ‘Pete’ Rice, Jr., 67, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.

He was born Nov. 28, 1953, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Casto Rice.

On Sept. 20, 1974, he married Vonda Harris, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Craig and Nic Rice, both of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Desiree King of Morgantown and Kylee, Taylor and Rylee Rice, all of Buckhannon; three brothers, Donald Rice of Hodgesville, Steven Rice and wife, Kathy, of Lexington, North Carolina, and Jeff Rice and wife, Linda, of Volga; three sisters, Beth Reed and Rev. Gary of Bridgeport, Kim Rice of Junior and Robin Criss and husband, Sam, of Buckhannon; three sisters-in-law, Marian Bailey and husband, Bob, of Volga, Marcia Harvey and husband, Dennis, and Karla Harris, all of Buckhannon; two brothers-in-law, Denny Harris and wife, Sherry, and Tim Harris and wife, Katrina, all of Volga; several nieces and nephews; and life-long best friend, Mark Miller of Hodgesville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Rice; infant sister, Karla Rice; three sisters-in-law, Martha and Eva Rice and Delana Evans; father-in-law, Bookie Harris; and mother-in-law, Dessie Harris.

Pete was a meat cutter and loved attending church at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. He was a founding member of the Warren District Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered with them for over 40 years. Pete loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his granddaughters.

Friends will be received Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Ellen Finegan and Pastor Tami Shoup officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion’s Hill Cemetery, formerly Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Volga.
