C. Lorraine Berkel, 95, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away at 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 2, 1907, at Ridgway, Ill., the daughter of the late clarence and Edith Black Harrington.

On May 31, 1923, at Harrisburg, Ill., she was married to William C. Berkel, who preceded her ind eath on April 10, 2000.

She is survived by one daughter, Lucille Buchanan, Valley Bend; one Son, Lawrence William Berkel and wife, Gatha, Beckley; five grandsons, David Buchanan, Bremerton, Wash., Douglas Berkel, Pineville, Ronald Berkel, Fairdale, Lawrence Berkel, Romney, and Kelly Berkel, Lewisburg; seven great grandchildren Heather Cline and husband, Jamie, Bethany, Holly, Forest, Olivia, Travis and Triftan Berkel. Two great-great-grandchildren, Hannah and Rachel Cline, also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two sister, Helen Funkhouser and Aliene Trousdale; and a grandson, James Berkel.

Mrs. Berkel was a homemaker, a member of the Valley Bend United Methodist Church, the Women of the Church and Huttonsville Rebekah Lodge No. 103.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 pm. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. At 7 p.m. today, Huttonsville Rebekah Lodge No. 103 will conduct a memorial service from the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald L. Fitzwater officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., 629 North Ave., Elkins, W. Va., 26241, or too the Mil Creek Nutrition Site, Mill Creek, W.Va., 26280, in memory of Mrs. Berkel. The Tomblyn Fuenral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for C. Lorraine Berkel.
